INTRODUCTION TO FAMILY WORK - A SYSTEMIC PERSPECTIVE

(Pre-conference Activity II)

7 July 2019

Understanding the importance of working with families is well established. The need for the engagement of families in the helping profession is becoming crucial.

Come join Family Therapist Dr Rabia Malik and Systemic Thinker Ms. Nora Bateson to begin the conversation that explores Family Therapy work in the 21st century – and how families are constantly exposed to multiple challenges that push family, its interaction and its patterned ideas of familial relationship to its edges.  This 1-day workshop is catered to participants who wish to use the systemic approach, as well as to participants who are wanting to increase their understanding and application of the systemic perspective to their current work.

Yes! You heard it right! New and old can learn together – social workers, counsellors, psychologists or even other professions who work in contexts that interact with families!

This two renowned international systemic duo will offer a pre-workshop that will prepare you to enter the conference with a different lens.

RESEARCHING FROM WITHIN - PRACTICE RESEARCH

(Post-Conference Workshop)

11-12 July 2019

Practice research is gaining traction as a research approach in the social service and family therapy field. What is practice research and how can practitioners go about doing it? What are the relationships that practitioners need to pay attention to in the research process?

The workshop will introduce various research methodologies for participants to consider in their research work. It will also offer a reflexive model for practice research to the workshop participants.

This workshop is open to practitioner-researchers i.e. lecturers and teachers, community workers, therapists, social workers, organisational consultants etc. who are studying/researching their own practice.

Participants will be given the opportunity to have conversations with the presenter to discuss their new practice research interests or ongoing practice research processes over the course of this 2-day workshop.

Come and join Dr Gail Simon in her practitioner-researcher-teacher-nurturer self, as she unpacks and mould your research interests!

6th Annual AAFT Conference

This 2-day conference looks to provide a platform for Asian practitioners, as well as international practitioners to exchange and deliberate about their practice.

This year's conference is also an effort to give voice to spirituality as one of the lived context of family living; it also seeks to affirm and legitimise practitioners’ interaction with the ideas and lived experiences of spirituality in their work with individuals, couples and families.
